Mission Statement:

My practice looks to draw on the relationship between the human, the non-human, and fables of the past and present to create alternative narratives for the present and the future. Combining science fiction and speculative fabulation with materialism and constructivism, seeks to bridge the gap between society’s approach of exploiting the Earth's natural resources, and our kinship towards all non-human species through a narrative of sheep’s wool, fibre, clay and wire using traditional processes and an experimental approach to storytelling.

“I want to create a narrative within my practice that makes people feel engaged, and provides topics of debate and discussion to understand how society looks at climate devastation, political greed and man’s desire for wealth and power, and how that relates to current global threats. Through the relationship of clay as a metaphor for political power, wool as a world commodity which has been exploited by the impact of the fashion industry, together with the climate crisis and identity crisis of the world’s population, needs the socio-economic impact researching with actions acted upon to a much greater extent than what is currently happening.”

Through a brutalist landscape and a message that looks to challenge the anthropocentric mindset of anthropomass; the extent at which man made goods has now taken over biomass through our constant need for technological advancement, my practice seeks to do more than just shout about global awareness but firmly nail the topic on the table. If it encourages people to think, explore and debate how to move beyond our broken throw away society, reduce companies and peoples impact on the environment and move to a more sustainable future, then if anything its a risk that’s worth taking. Opening up a dialogue with both the physical and cultural connotations of natural materials, pushes my chosen subject back to the earth of whence it came.
